Our Trip To Winterlude in Ottawa
by Sebastien

Hi, it's me, Sebastien, again.  I'm writing to tell you all about our latest adventure.  Mommy and Daddy took me and Sacha to this big winter carnival in Ottawa called "winterlude".  There was so many things to see and do, that we had to go twice on two different weekends.  As usual,  daddy took his camera with him, so I have lots of photos to show you. First, we went to this park to see the ice sculpture competition.  It was pretty neat to see how the sculptors used their chisels and chain saws to carve blocks of ice into all kinds of neat things.

pretty neat, eh!

We got to see a big ice wall with army man stuff frozen in it to honour our soldiers
that fought in some big wars a long time ago...

There was also a café with furniture made out of ice

After looking at the ice sculptures, we went down to the Rideau Canal to do some skating.

Daddy told me that it's the longest skating rink in the world.  I can believe it too,
because it went way way, far, far...

As you can see, I'm getting pretty good at skating.  We went about 3 kilometres, and I did
most of it without any help (except to get up when I would fall).

Mommy and daddy took turn pushing Sacha's chair while skating up the canal.
He seemed to enjoy the fresh air and being outside..

Here's me, mommy and Sacha taking a break.

We were pretty hungry after all that skating, so we stopped for a snack.  Daddy got us some Canadian treats.  I had maple syrup that they pour in the snow, then roll on a stick.  Daddy had a beavertail.

yummy!

For the second day of our trip to winterlude, we went to a snow park on the Quebec side
of the river that had lots of fun stuff to do.

Here's daddy and me beside a statue of my hockey hero,
Maurice "the Rocket" Richard

I really like this park, especially going down the big ice slides

Weeeeeee!

Even mommy and Sacha took a turn on the slides.
( look hard - Sacha's on mommy's lap)

We also had fun looking at all the neat snow carvings

Daddy tells me this rock statue is called an inkushuk and is made by the Inuit people way up north.

Whew - time for a hot dog and hot chocolate break.

After our break, it was time for more fun.

Here I am sliding on a big tube.

Daddy wanted to try out the fun stuff too, so he too Sacha for a ride on the ice slides

We even went down a big slide together...

Me, Sacha & daddy going for a slide.

Whew!  What a fun day!

As you can see, we had a nice time playing in the snow at Winterlude.  I'll be sure to write again soon when I get back from my next adventure...
